On this scenic holiday discover the delights of England’s glorious Wye Valley and the county of Herefordshire. We take a ride on the heritage Dean Forest railway, wander timeless back through the ages with a tour of the Black & White Villages, stroll the enchanting ruins of Tintern Abbey and visit Chepstow Castle, and visit medieval Hereford.

Day 1

We depart home area and travel to our hotel stopping enroute at the picturesque town of Marlborough. There is plenty of choice of eateries to purchase lunch and time to look around the quaint individual shops. Upon arrival at our hotel enjoy a refreshing glass of fruit juice whilst your luggage is taken to our bedroom. Time to relax before your evening meal.

Day 2

This morning, after breakfast, enjoy a scenic drive along the beautiful Wye Valley to Tintern, dominated by the spectacular remains of Tintern Abbey. We spend time here exploring the Abbey's enchanting ruins before visiting the town's craft and antique shops. Afterwards we travel to Symonds Yat, a famous viewpoint commanding lovely vistas over the Wye Valley. We also take a circular River Wye cruise from Symonds Yat. Our captain will give us a full commentary informing us of the natural beauty and history of the area before disembarking and returning to our hotel. After dinner tonight enjoy an evening of entertainment.

Day 3

Today we visit first, the imposing beautifully preserved Chepstow Castle, perched high above the river Wye. For more than six centuries Chepstow was home to some of the wealthiest and most powerful men of the medieval and Tudor ages. Afterwards we take a gentle stroll to the historic market town of Chepstow (approx. 5 mins) and explore the shops and have time to purchase lunch before our coach takes us to Norchard and the Dean Forest Railway. Opportunity to visit the museum here and be shown around its locomotive restoration shed before embarking on a return journey on a steam or heritage diesel train, which transports us for 8.5 miles through the medieval Forest of Dean. Afterwards we return to hotel for our evening meal.

Day 4

After breakfast, we travel north into Herefordshire to experience the famous Black and White villages of Weobley, Pembridge and Leominster. These medieval villages have some of England's prettiest half-timbered buildings and sit amid tranquil orchards and farmland. Dipping into their art galleries, cozy pubs and traditional tearooms only adds to the sense of stepping back in time. We can also enjoy the local surroundings and before our return to our hotel, we enjoy free time to stroll and explore the delightful cathedral city of Hereford. We return to our hotel and after dinner tonight we enjoy evening entertainment.

Day 5

We depart our hotel and return to home area stopping enroute in the charming town of Chippenham. Today is market day, so take time to wander around the market stalls and visit the attractive shops and to obtain an early lunch before continuing our journey homeward.

Bells Hotel & Country Club, Coleford, Gloucestershire ***

This hotel is in the Forest of Dean on the outskirts of the market town of Coleford. The hotel enjoys a peaceful hillside location with fantastic views over the Wye Valley. All bedrooms are of a high standard and traditional in style. The hotel has no lifts but there are plenty of bedrooms on the ground floor. The hotel is spread across two buildings, with the reception, bedrooms, and beauty suite in one, and the bar, restaurant, and terrace in the other. The hotel also has a gym, county standard bowling green and an 18-hole golf course.
