The Lake District & Yorkshire Dales

Discover the magnificent Lake District, the largest of England’s National Parks. Visit Grassmere where William Wordsworth attended school (now a famous Gingerbread shop). The Lake District inspired Wordsworth to write ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’. The Yorkshire Dales has some of the most spectacular scenery in England. This will be a truly a breath-taking holiday.

Day 1

We travel to the Lake District making comfort stops along the way, including a stop at the National Memorial Arboretum.

Day 2

Today we enjoy a scenic tour of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. We head to the edge of the National Park to the delightful historic market town of Kirkby Lonsdale in the Lune Valley. Opportunity to purchase morning refreshments here before we continue a very short distance to see Devils Bridge, a magnificent three-arched bridge, dating back to the 12th century which is now classed as an ancient monument. We continue to the delightful town of Hawes, famous for the production of Wensleydale Cheese. There are many quaint individual shops to browse and tea rooms to purchase lunch. We then head back to our hotel via Sedbergh.

Day 3

We start our day with a scenic drive through the picturesque Lake District. Travelling north via Windermere, we arrive in Bowness on Windermere, a delightful town with plenty of individual shops to browse and tea rooms to obtain morning refreshments. Opportunity to take a boat trip on Windermere (extra cost). Afterwards we continue via Ambleside, the head of England’s largest natural lake, to the picture-postcard village of Grasmere - home to Wordsworth when he wrote his famous poem, "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud", inspired by the flowers and scenery of the Lake District. We stop here for lunch to be obtained. Afterwards we travel via Coniston Waters and return to our hotel.

Day 4

This morning we take a short ride to Ulverston, a market town with old buildings and a labyrinth of cobbled streets. Opportunity to visit the Laurel and Hardy Museum (entry extra) as this was the town where Stan Laurel was born in 1890. There are plenty of shops to browse and eateries to purchase lunch before returning to our hotel. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure in Grange-Over-Sands.

Day 5

After breakfast we return home making suitable comfort stops along the way.

The Hazelwood Restaurant serves traditional cuisine using the finest local ingredients and boasts a fine selection of wines to accompany the menu. The beach is within easy walking distance and Grange-over-Sands Rail Station is 10 minutes’ walk away. There is a lift to all floors.
