Embark on a captivating coach holiday staying in the picturesque Sandown Bay on the Isle of Wight. This well-planned itinerary offers a delightful blend of coastal beauty, historic charm, and unique attractions. From the striking cliffs of Alum Bay to the charming towns of Yarmouth, Shanklin, and Ryde, this journey provides a comprehensive exploration of the islands highlights including a steam train ride.
Day 1
We depart home area and travel to the Isle of Wight, stopping somewhere suitable for lunch to be purchased before our afternoon ferry crossing. We drive a short across the island to our hotel in Sandown Bay where we will be greeted by the friendly staff with a cup of tea/coffee. While the staff share information about the hotel our luggage will be taken to our bedrooms. There will be plenty of time to relax, unpack and enjoy a drink in the hotels bar lounge before our evening meal. After dinner enjoy an evening of entertainment in the Ballroom.
Day 2
Today we have an optional visit to the palatial former holiday home of Queen Victoria, Osborne House (price approx. £23pp, to be paid at time of booking, entry is free for English Heritage Members, proof of membership must be given on the day) or visit Ryde, the gateway to the Isle of Wight. This is the largest town on the Isle of Wight, a vibrant coastal town known for its Victorian architecture and lively seaside atmosphere. Take a walk along the seafront promenade or the pier, one of the oldest and longest piers in the UK offering panoramic sea views. The town’s centre is bustling with a variety of shops and restaurants and cafes.
B, DDay 3
This morning we depart for the Isle of Wight Steam Railway which will charm, engage and captivate, leaving us with some lasting memories of a special day out. Afterwards we return to Sandown for an afternoon at leisure. Walk along the promenade and take in the sea air or visit the pier which provides all-weather amusements. We spend the afternoon in Newport, located in the heart of the Island, known for its rich history and vibrant shopping district.
B, DDay 4
After breakfast we enjoy a tour around the Island. Our first stop is in Yarmouth, located on the northwest coast, known for its picturesque harbour filled with yachts, fishing boats and ferries. A great place for a leisurely stroll and opportunity to purchase morning refreshments at a waterfront café. Afterwards we visit Allum Bay, located on the westernmost point and is renowned for its stunning multicoloured cliffs. Visit the Marconi Monument which marks the precise location where Guglielmo Marconi undertook his pioneering work at the end of the 19th century which led to all telecommunications as we know it today. From here there are amazing views of the Needles, the famous landmark just off the coast. Take the cable car down to the beach to see the Needles (extra cost). Opportunity to purchase lunch before we continue via the delightful village of Godshill and make our last stop in the charming village of Sandown, known for its award-winning tea rooms and delightful shops.
