Historic Heartlands & Industrial Heritage

Day 1

To Stratford Upon Avon for lunch to be obtained. Time to wander this medieval town, with more than 800 years of history.

Day 2

The Black Country Living Museum, offers a glimpse into 300 years of history, discover the story of the industrial revolution and the folk who changed the world, and it was the filming location for Peaky Blinders. This afternoon, we visit Lichfield, its Cathedral, the only mediaeval English cathedral with three spires, known as the "Ladies of the Vale".

Day 3

To Shrewsbury for a cruise on the River Severn on a triple deck boat taking us from Victoria Quay to English Bridge, with lovely views, and entertaining commentary. This afternoon we visit Blists Hill Victorian Town within the Ironbridge Gorge Museums, a living museum re-enacting life in from the early 1700s to the Victorian era. Alternatively visit the Coalport China Museum, Broseley Pipeworks or the Darby Houses (time will not allow for visits to multiple sites). Complete the day by viewing the Iron Bridge.

Day 4

This morning we visit the British Ironwork Centre, the UK’s largest centre for decorative metal work known for its Spoon Gorilla, made from 40,000 spoons; Knife Angel, made from over 100,000 seized blades; and Manchester Bee, made of firearms. After the thought-provoking Sculpture Park, we visit the market town of Shrewsbury, birthplace of Charles Darwin, narrow, winding streets and picturesque alleys add to the town’s old-world charm.

Day 5

We depart for home area stopping in the beautiful historic town of St Ives, Cambridgeshire. Friday in Market Hill there is a small street market. Take a stroll alongside the river and purchase lunch in one of the many eateries.
