Join us this Easter to Wells, a city steeped in history, and surrounded by rolling hills and lush countryside. Its impressive 12th-century cathedral dominates the skyline. We visit Bishops Palace, Cheddar Gorge and enjoy a coach guided tour around Bath.
Day 1
Good Friday. We depart home area and after making a suitable refreshment stop, we head for Salisbury for lunch to be obtained before continuing to our hotel in Wells. We will meet up in the bar for a welcome glass of bucks fizz before our evening meal.
DDay 2
Today is market day* in Wells. Spend the morning browsing the stalls selling local produced arts, crafts and produce. Late morning we have an included entry to Bishop's Palace & Gardens, which has been home to the Bishop's of Bath and Wells for over 800 years. It is particularly notable for its exterior of sculptures granite, limestone and sandstone and the elaborate carved woodwork on the interior. This afternoon we visit nearby Cheddar Gorge and Caves, not only is it one of Britain's most spectacular natural landmarks, but also an Area of Outstanding Beauty. The Gorge boasts awe-inspiring cliffs and extraordinary subterranean stalactite show caves. We enjoy an audio guide of Gough’s Cave followed by a hot drink and a piece of cake.
B, DDay 3
Easter Sunday. Today we head to the vibrant city of Bath, known for its Roman baths, Georgian architecture and literary connections to Jane Austen. Our entertaining and eccentric guide Richard will be waiting for us to take us on a guided coach tour around Bath. Afterwards there will be free time to explore this fascinating city and visit the many shops and obtain refreshments.
B, DDay 4
Easter Monday. We depart our hotel and travel homewards stopping at the lovely city of Winchester, known for its medieval Winchester Cathedral with its 17th century Morley Library where Jane Austen and many kings have been laid to rest.
