Austrian Winter Wonderland

New for 2024!

Join us on this fabulous winter wonderland holiday in breathtaking Austria. We stay in the delightful town of St. Georgen surrounded by rolling hills and forests. Experience the warm hospitality of the local residents. Our hotel in Austria is family run and they love looking after groups. We visit a varied range of attractions in the area from visiting Hallstatt with a ride on the magnificent funicular, a visit to a pastry shop with tastings of the famous Mozart chocolates, a horse sleigh ride and a visit to the well-known ceramic factory in the area and so much more.

Day 1

Today we travel to Dover for our short ferry crossing to Calais. We travel through France, travelling via Champagne country making comfort stops and arrive at our overnight hotel, Mercure Hotel Saarbrucken, located just across the borders in Germany, with time to enjoy a pre-dinner drink before our evening buffet meal.

Day 2

After breakfast, we continue our journey through Germany and into Austria, making several comfort stops along the way. We arrive at our hotel and enjoy a welcome drink upon arrival whilst our luggage is taken to our bedrooms. Time to freshen up and unpack before our evening meal.

Day 3

Today we will explore the "Salzkammergut", a region that owes its name to the mining of table salt. Enjoy a stop at St. Wolfgang, located at the foot of the Schafberg-mountain. Here we will visit the "Salzkontor", a shop specializing in natural salt. Enjoy a short introduction tour to the world of a salt paver and a small souvenir. Afterwards we will have some free time for a leisurely stroll through the historic streets of St. Wolfgang. Afterwards continue to Hallstatt, which is one of Austria´s most exquisite villages and a trademark scene of this beautiful country. With the Salzbergbahn (Funicular railway) we can quickly and easily reach the Hallstadt Skywalk (optional) from where we can enjoy in 360 m height a breathtaking view! Return afterwards to our hotel for our evening meal.

Day 4

Today we will experience Salzburg's fairytale magic and explore its spectacular baroque sights, like the birthplace of Mozart in the famous Getreidegasse, the Church of the Holy Trinit, Salzburg Cathedral and St Peter's Abbey! The tour will end at the pastry shop FÜRST, who is known as the inventor of the famous "Original Mozartkugel"! (A small, round sugar confection made of pistachio, marzipan, and nougat that is covered with dark chocolate). Our tour guide will explain to us the procedure of the Mozartkugel making and a tasting is of course "a must"! After some free time continue to Mondsee to visit the basilica, internationally known as the wedding church of the movie "The Sound of Music". Afterwards our dinner awaits us at the hotel

Day 5

Today we experience the enchanting winter charm of Bad Ischl with a horse sleigh ride through its picturesque landscapes. As snow blankets the historic town, embark on a magical journey, gliding through snow-covered paths and admiring the idyllic scenery. The rhythmic clip-clop of horse hooves sets a serene soundtrack during listening to interesting stories and anecdotes. Afterwards visit and enjoy the beautiful scenery in and around Traunsee and Attersee. The city of Gmunden is known, among other things, as the place of origin of the "Gmundner ceramics". Enjoy a guided tour through the ceramic manufactory of Gmunden, where we can not only visit the different stations, but also experience the art of "painting"! Also a visit to Schloss (Castle) Ort is a must. This is a complex of two castles on Lake Traunsee and is located on the island of Ort near Gmunden. It consists of the more well-known lake castle on an island in Lake Traunsee and the country castle connected via the bridge. The Seeschloss is one of the oldest buildings in the Salzkammergut. We return to our hotel afterwards for our evening meal.

Day 6

After breakfast we retrace our outward journey making comfort stops along the way through Austria and Germany arriving at our overnight hotel for our evening buffet meal.

Day 7

Today, after breakfast we return to home area making suitable comfort stops in France and catch our early evening short ferry crossing back to the UK and arrive home area approx. 9pm

This family friendly hotel located in St. Georgen has it own private gardens and terrace and a restaurant. All bedrooms have lovely views, and some have a balcony (extra supplement). There is a lounge/bar area in which to relax in the evening. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi.
