Experience the best of Yorkshire staying in the elegant town of Harrogate. We visit charming Holmfirth, famous for ‘Last of the Summer Wine’, historic market town of Skipton ‘Gateway to the Dales’, a canal trip on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal, memorable train journeys on the Settle to Carlisle and Embsay to Bolton Abbey railways, a guided tour of the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

 

 

 

Day 1

We depart home area and make our way to the mediaeval picturesque town of Newark for lunch to be obtained. Time here to look around the many quaint shops before continuing to our hotel in Harrogate.

Day 2

After breakfast, we travel to Embsay to enjoy a return steam train journey to Bolton Abbey. Rejoin the coach for the short trip to visit delightful Skipton with its picturesque quay and canal towpaths running through the centre of the town. Explore the town at our own pace. Take the opportunity to visit Skipton Castle, wander around the shops or try the fish and chips at award-winning Bizzie Lizzies. This afternoon we embark on a leisurely canal trip on the Leeds to Liverpool Canal with hilarious cruise commentary from Dave Spikey.

Day 3

Today, we enjoy a full day guided excursion through the Yorkshire Dales National Park, to the pleasant market town of Appleby where we board the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway for the journey south to Settle for more wonderful dales scenery. We then rejoin the coach and return to the hotel.

Day 4

After breakfast, we spend a leisurely morning exploring the sleepy town of Holmfirth nestled in the Holme Valley, and the location for Last of the Summer Wine, we’ll find Sid’s Café and Nora Batty’s Steps. We return to Harrogate for the afternoon, there are several pretty gardens here, including Valley Gardens, browse the shops, or purchase afternoon tea in the famous Bettys Café Tea Rooms.

Day 5

We depart for home area stopping in the attractive town of Oakham enroute for our lunch stop. The town centre is lined with a charming mix of independent boutiques, antique shops, cosy tea rooms and traditional pubs.

THE OLD SWAN HOTEL ****

Enter the Old Swan Hotel through its revolving doors, it is an elegant, ivy covered Victorian hotel with a traditional elegance. The hotel is surrounded by pretty lawns and gardens with history dating back nearly 200 years, including being the tranquil haven that Agatha Christie mysteriously disappeared in 1926. The hotel has a bar/lounge area and a beautiful restaurant. All bedrooms are ensuite and tastefully furnished with tea/coffee making facilities, TV and Wi-Fi.
