King, Castle & Rural Rutland

Day 1

We depart home area and make our way to Stamford, a setting for many TV dramas and Films. There are plenty of eateries to obtain lunch before we continue to our hotel where we are greeted with a nice cup of tea/coffee.

Day 2

Today, to Belvoir Castle, the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland for almost a thousand years! Wander the Castle and gardens, a beautiful and tranquil space. Belvoir Castle was used as one of the filming locations in The Crown, it has similar round turrets to Windsor Castle. Afterwards, visit Grainstore Brewery, the largest brewery in the smallest county, proud of its heritage and brewing expertise, we enjoy a guided tour and tasting. Practical footwear is required (no high heels, sandals, flipflops or open-toe shoes).

Day 3

Today, Leicester, a friendly city bursting with heritage and culture. We visit the King Richard III Visitor Centre which charts the story of the king’s life and death. Afterwards, spend time at leisure in the city with time to purchase lunch. Opportunity to visit Leicester Food Hall & Outdoor Market.

Day 4

Visit the beautiful Barnsdale Gardens, created by the late Geoff Hamilton, star of BBC Gardener’s World, boasting 38 individual gardens. Visit the Helenium Tea Rooms for lunch to be obtained before continuing to Rutland Water for our afternoon tea cruise.

Day 5

Return via the beautiful historic town of St Ives, Cambridgeshire. Markets have been a feature here since 1100 and every Friday in Market Hill there is a small street market. Take a stroll alongside the river, and purchase lunch in one of the many eateries.
