Discover the French traditions and France’s “Sleeping Beauty” in a new light, some of the best Bordeaux wines along with the prestigious vineyards of the Médoc and Saint-Emilion. The region is also home to some of the best French pastries, Blaye’s pralines or sweet caramel crusted cakes called cannelés are a real treat! Cruise the largest area of AOC vineyards in the world.

Day 1

Orleans, France
Crossing the channel by ferry we travel through France and arrive late
afternoon at our overnight hotel, the Ibis Orleans Centre Foch.

Day 2

Bordeaux to Cussac-Fort-Médoc
We travel via Tours, to Bordeaux for embarkation on our cruise ship. A welcome cocktail reception by the crew before our evening meal. Our ship will cruise to the Gironde River.

Day 3

Cussac-Fort-Médoc, Médoc, Gironde Estuary to Royan
Today we visit Médoc – a renowned tranquil region where the most famous red wines are cultivated. Afterwards a panoramic tour of Royan, capital of the Côte de Beauté, a coastal resort town with five beaches and a marina with over 1,000 boats.

Day 4

Royan, Rochefort, La Rochelle to Libourne
Today, the seaside cities of Rochefort and La Rochelle. Rochefort was originally chosen by Jean-Baptiste Colbert as a refuge, defence, and supply post for the French Navy in the mid-1660s. Its arsenal remained a naval base and dockyard until 1926. The historic downtown area, private mansions and beautiful homes, where legendary sailors and explorers lived, still retains an air of adventure and glamour. We visit the Corderie Royale, a historical rope-making factory which has provided ropes for the French Navy and its ships for over three centuries. Afterwards, to the 1,000-year-old city of La Rochelle, with lunch in a local restaurant. During a guided tour, we’ll learn about the Grosse-Horloge, Renaissance arcades, lovely half-timbered homes, finely sculpted facades of private mansions, and the cathedral. Some free time before returning to the ship.

Day 5

Libourne to Bordeaux
This morning to Saint-Emilion. We have a guided visit of the underground monuments of Saint-Emilion village, our guide introduces us to the history of the medieval city. We visit an exceptional Troglodyte settlement – the cave of Emilion, the monk who founded the city, the chapel of the Holy Trinity built in his honour, most original of all the monuments – the monolithic church. Carved out entirely from limestone rocks, it is the largest church in Europe. We visit a family-run vineyard and wine-producer where we are welcomed by the owner who explains the production of the great wines of Saint-Emilion. Naturally we have a tasting.

Day 6

Bordeaux to Cadillac
We cruise the Garonne to Cadillac, with glimpses of Bordeaux as we sail. This morning a guided visit to the Roquetaillade Château. This magnificent and prestigious medieval castle is listed as a XIIth and XIVth century historic monument. We return to Cadillac for a guided tour of the town, then to our ship for lunch and the afternoonc ruising to Bordeaux. Tonight is our gala evening.

Day 7

Bordeaux, Arcachon Bay
Bordeaux obtained its listing as a UNESCO World Heritage 'cultural site'. On our guided coach tour, we see the key buildings and monuments before visiting old Bordeaux on foot. Lunch on-board ship and the rest of the afternoon to relax or enjoy Bordeaux.

Day 8

Bordeaux to Orleans
After breakfast on board we disembark for our return overnight hotel in Orleans.

Orleans to Home
After breakfast we return to home area making suitable refreshment stops.

The upper deck cabins have wide windows with French balconies, middle deck cabins have large windows and the main deck cabins have portholes. The restaurant is located on the middle deck and the lounge & bar, at the front of the ship for evening entertainment, aperitifs and games. The sun deck has armchairs and sun loungers to relax on while enjoying the panoramic views of the landscape. All cabins have TV, a safe, independent airconditioning, and Wi-Fi. (Please note there is no laundry service on board).
