Day 1
We depart from home area and travel to County Durham making suitable comfort stops, including a stop in Newark for lunch to be purchased. Newark, a charming market town steeped in history and brimming with character is known for its wide range of shops and eateries. Upon arrival at our hotel we enjoy a cup of tea/coffee whilst our luggage is taken to our bedroom. Time to relax before our evening meal.
DDay 2
After breakfast we visit the Living Museum of the North, Beamish. This famous open-air museum, set within 300 acres of beautiful County Durham countryside, tells the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s and 1940s. We experience town life as it would have been in the 1940s during World War II, we visit a 1940’s farm, pop into the Colliery and Pit Village in the early 1900s and take unlimited free rides on the Beamish tram. There are plenty of places to purchase refreshments.
B, DDay 3
Today we travel to the mighty Raby Castle and Deer Park to discover over 600 years of history on a guided tour. It is one of the finest and best-preserved mediaeval castles in North East England. Opportunity to purchase lunch in Raby Castle’s Yurt Café and Stables Shop before visiting the award-winning Bowes Museum. This fabulous museum has a romantic history and stunning galleries can be discovered inside this listed building which resembles a French chateau. Opportunity to purchase afternoon tea in Café Bowes before returning to our hotel.
B, DDay 4
After breakfast we travel to Durham, we have a guided tour of one of the most iconic landmarks in England, Durham Cathedral which took over 40 years to complete. The Cathedral is known for its stunning Romanesque architecture, including its famous rose window, which is one of the largest in Europe. We discover the story of a nation through this monumental building before free time this afternoon to explore the city. Take a wander around Prince Bishops Shopping centre, home to an eclectic mix of popular high streets stores, independent shops and eateries. Opportunity to try Durham’s traditional dish called ‘stotty cake’.
B, DDay 5
We depart our hotel after breakfast and travel back to home area making suitable comfort stops along the way, including a stop in Stamford, where numerous period dramas have been filmed, for lunch to be purchased.
