You have all got a common interest of course, but how that
can be enjoyed together may take twists and turn along the way,
especially if booking a day out or holiday?
Looking beyond the obvious at the really obvious, we want to
find ways to make your group feel special and align interests
to make all those decisions a little bit easier!
In this 4 minute read, we will cover some of the things
that can help bring a group together and share
ideas.
Bring the group together
Now of course you may be doing this already, whether you are
Wine Appreciation group or part of the National Trust, WI and
anything else, OR, you are just trying to organise a group of
friends to see a show together.
It is sometimes good to find some things that bind your
wonderful group together more closely.
What are your common interests? It might be obvious but
discussing the reason you are together can help appreciate how
people see the group or activity you are trying to do and
realigning the group with a goal which is most likely to
agree and not leave anyone out.
Prioritise the interests
Once you know what the majority of the group want, prioritise
your yearly schedule around that, but it doesnt mean that
the minority are left out in the cold, remind the group as a
whole that you are booking for the majority. Also make time to
book something in for the minority, you are more likely to
achieve consensus, and everyone feels included!
This could be for 1 day trip this month and somewhere else the
following. Or for Holiday Itinerary do something that includes
something for the minority.
Anyone enjoys a good day out, even if it isnt at the top
of their lists. Laughter with friends and doing something good
is forever a noble pursuit.
Communicate regularly
You are holding your meetings of course and there is no better
way to communicate than with likeminded people.
It could be good to summarise the even or check in at the
halfway point between meetings to give them a summary of the
last meeting. Email or WhatsApp groups could be a new way to
connect.
This can get people excited and coming to the even with plenty
to talk about, rather than forgetting mostly what went on last
time, life can distract us after all!
Celebrate each other
This is so important, none of us feel celebrated enough. We are
all incredible people, and we all do incredible things.
Allowing a safe space among the group to talk about things
outside of the interests creates a human connection and helps
you understand each other.
Turn a day out into A for Joan, Sandra & Clive,
it doesnt have to be just for them, but it is in
celebration of maybe some of what they have done, inside or
outside the club.
If someone won at Bingo, celebrate it, then ask them to pay for
the drinks when you are next out together!
Hopefully some of this is helpful when trying to organise a
group on their next day out or holiday with us! Find out how we
