COACH HOLIDAY ITINERARY
DAY 1 Travel to Derby making suitable comfort stops along the way. Stop in Melton Mowbray for lunch to be purchased. Arrive at the hotel with time to freshen up before our evening meal.
DAY 2 After breakfast travel to Cromford where we enjoy a peaceful 2-hour cruise on a horse-drawn narrowboat along the Cromford Canal. Refreshments are available to purchase and there is a toilet on board. Afterwards we continue to Matlock, a unique village set in a wonderful gorge with attractive riverside gardens, wooded hillsides and rocky limestone crags. Time to purchase lunch here before heading to the beautiful village of Eyam, known to visitors and residents alike as the ‘Plague Village’. The Great Plague arrived from London in a parcel of cloth infested with fleas. We return to the hotel for our evening meal.
DAY 3 After breakfast visit Chatsworth House, home to the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire. The house offers 30 fascinating rooms to discover, from the magnificent Painted Hall, regal State Rooms, restored Sketch Galleries and beautiful Sculpture Gallery (as shown on the film adaption ‘Pride & Prejudice’). This afternoon we visit Bakewell, located on the River Wye, with free time to wander the attractive shops and sample the town’s traditional Bakewell Pudding. Return to the hotel later for our evening meal.
DAY 4 After breakfast we head to the Crich Tramway Village, home to the National Tramway museum located in the heart of Derbyshire. The village is like stepping back in time and contains a fleet of working trams, a traditional pub, tea room, old fashioned sweet shop and printing shop. In the afternoon visit Chesterfield and look around the narrow medieval streets and The Shambles for unique independent shops. We head back to the hotel late afternoon in time to relax before our evening meal.
DAY 5 After breakfast we head for home area stopping in Stamford for lunch to be purchased. Stamford is widely regarded as one of the finest stone towns in England.
